No good times for the mayor of New York. Despite the
generous 3 billion US$ tax reduction Amazon has now
dropped the plans to build a campus in Queens. The
site would have offered 25.000 to 40.000 jobs.

2.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000 US$ (= 2×10^36)
You may probably wonder about the big number followed by a dollar sign.
No, this isn’t the actual finacial debt of the USA. And no, this ain’t the
world’s total economic finance strength.

In New York, one of the biggest train station is now 100 years old and still
withstanding old and new age. With 67 tracks of which no far-distance trains are
leaving, it is for sure the biggest suburb-connecting train station. Opened on
February 2nd, 1913 at exactly 12:01AM it marked a new train traffic era.

There are lots of crazy news to read these days. But when it comes to absurd
things (things, normal people won’t do, usually!) then it makes me think what
could have moved person XY to do such a silly thing. In this news the
person has died shitting between platform and train and fell into the track.

machines can be nasty during operation. in this case, an escalator in the New
York subway system went berzerk and just switched the direction while
people were on it. The chaos was programmed. But not only the direction
change was a problem, also the speed of the scalator changed to faster.

The storm is over but the real disaster is just now visible. The following pics
show what Sandy has left. And if you think, a giant city like New York is safe
against mother nature, well… think again! All pictures are copyright of their

When it comes to time, history is one of the words one may think of. In
this case, we speak of Macy’s, New York at Herold’s Place. It is the world’s
biggest shopping mall and has ever been. 10 stories of goods presented on
198.500 m² (2.13 million sqft.) fits everyone’s needs.

hardly announced, the first people in New York are already waiting for
Apple’s new gadget. Although the phone will be available on Friday, there
are some people already camping at the Apple store just to be first in line
to get the new iPhone. How long are you willing to wait?

When discussing about climatic changes caused by man with a co-worker,
she told me that New York has been struck by a tornado. I just thought,
she was shittin’ me but Google taught me better: On September 8th, 2012
a tornado has struck the NY borough Queens leaving some destruction.

When it comes to police and USA, you’d better know how to behave. One
man in New York hd the bad luck to face NYPD officers with an itchy
trigger finger and got shot. The problem: He was armed with a knife and
seems to have offended the officers. 12 bullets ended this man’s life!

Garage for WHAT you may ask? Yes, you read right. As there’s an official cell
phone prohibition in public schools of New York, pupils can store their cellphone
in one of the mobile storage units which stay at a certain spot when the first
cellphone is handed in. Although the controls at the school gates are more hard…

I already mentionned, that I like Timelapse videos. This time, it’s from the
construction site of the Freedom Tower in New York where a camera has
recorded pictures of the construction over 8 years. They are now finally put
together into a 2 minutes long timelapse video. The result is amazing!

Today the Wall Street in New York has been occupied by about 700 activists who
demonstrate against the enormous power of the banks and financial places such as the
stock exchange in New York. However the action did not have such big success as the
local police has arrested many of the disturbants and probably put them into custody.

Hey there, my bday is coming with big steps. only 9 days until I get one year older.
Can’t believe that one year has passed by so quickly. Lots of things happened. But

around with Rosiv as we did last year in Vienna. However plans are to go to…

While news have spread the word, a hurricane is on it’s way to the upper east coast of
the USA. They say that the storm is a category 3 storm that may also reach category 4.
With 1300 km diameter (that’s pretty large if you ask me!) it is also dangerous to a large
area. Well… in New York and New Jersey, there’s big evacuation and alert!

Today I found this funny video on youTube where a guy is testing the Apple
Store workers’ patience to the maximum. The 3 Minutes video show 4 different
situations and the reaction is quite interesting. Where one would get a snarly
comment when bringing food or a pet into the shop, at Apple stores all is okay!

This way of hair-cutting is somewhat strange yet amusing to watch. Never
thought that someone would really use this rather unconventional way of
cutting hair. I myself would still prefer a coiffeur who uses scissors instead
of the tools used in the video. But watch and decide for yourself.
