Short info about this blog
You might have wondered why there were no
updates in the last two weeks. Due to a very weak
internet I have just composed articles offline but
not yet published them. They will appear here soon.

Ever been annoyed of a very slow internet? Yeah, me too!
Okay, a 250 Mbit/s line for downstream isn’t slow at all but…
if there wasn’t the notorious break on the upstream. And that’s where ewb enters the game with Fiber Internet.
As if things wouldn’t be grim enough when it comes to privacy
and security, this new case of fatal security breach is going to
mean big trouble not only for Lenovo and their security tool.
The reason is the infestation of the HTTPS-mechanism in common.
As usual I am in front row when new things have to be tested. In this case it’s
cablecom and their new internet packages. The bandwidth has been ordered
(250/15) and was instantly set up. Not more then one hour did I have to wait
to benefit from the new speed. The speedtest.net result speaks for itself…
It seems as if the spying on users in the USA is still ongoing and proceeding.
A confidential document has stated, that the FBI has scanned and read
E-Mails of suspected persons without prior notice. That is a severe breach
with privacy. The article is linked here.
The internet grows, the internet offers much more media than ever before.
Games are no longer delivered on physical media. Programs run off the
cloud service. Everything gets based on the internet more and more. What
sounds good for us, may be bad for users of T-Online. The reason: Cutbacks!
Simcity is going to hit the store tomorrow. For those who are already sure
that they want to obtain the game, the Origin store takes pre-orders for the
game. Coming in three flavours, the most expensive edition (Limited Deluxe
Edition) offers additional building designs. the Limited Edition is, stripped…
When it comes to fast internet, one might think, Switzerland is not able to
provide fast Internet. Well think again. While many citizen of Switzerland
already have internet connections with over 16 MBit/s, most citizen in
Germany still hope to get fast DSL (6 Mbit/s)!
Long awaited, LTE finally goes online and allows owners of appropriate
hardware to surf the internet with tremendous speeds. However owners of
the iPhone will still not be able to hop on as the hardcoded baseband does
not yet understand the LTE band. And it’s not sure when it’ll be done.
The times change, as it does in the internet (speeds, availability) and also TV.
While many cable service providers have a crypted basic cableTV service or
at least only viewable if you own hardware from the certain provider, here
in switzerland, the UPC cablecom is going to change things now.
Ever dreamt of a fast internet? So fast that even modern network components
at home reach their capacity? Google plans just this. In Kansas, USA Google
plans to offer Gigabit(!) Internet for everybody. And with that, a price of US$ 79
seems just too good to be true. But what makes this the sweetest deal ever?
If you ever thought, kitchen devices, such as fridges are the only thing that are
connected to the internet, well, think again because AGA has given an oven the
functionality to be operated from the web. Although I see some sort of risk in
this (despite virae that may attack the OS interface of it), it may be a cool gadget.
After a big uproar about PIPA worldwide, the US Senate has set out the ballot for the
PIPA law that would have led the internet into more and more censoring than now.
The most actual case of protest has come from the english Wikipedia, who has blacked
out it’s site for 24 hours between Wednesday and Thursday. With success ans you see now!
According to the blog entry from yesterday (read here), Wikipedia has indeed
put Wikipedia into blackout. Where you would usually see the main page of
Wikipedia, there’s now a black page criticizing the new legislation about SOPA
copyright and the attempt to put the free internet “behind bars”.
This story describes how the webcam got invented. A small idea grown during
the question on how full a coffee machine’s can in a distant office room is.
Quentin Stafford-Fraser picked up the idea to remotely watch the coffee can by
a camera pointing to the coffee machine shooting a picture every 20 seconds.
Todays topic deals with the censorship of the Internet. You all know, that especially
China is strictly filtering the internet for any unwanted criticism of the regime that rules
the country. China has installed the Golden Wall (a government-administered firewall)
to “protect” the chinese people from any bad influence that may come from the internet.
So, finally a post of my thoughts about today’s communication methods. 15 years ago,
the communication methods were rather limited as cell phones and their price plans
were too expensive. The Internet was still in it’s development process and services like
ICQ and the like were not well-developed or ready for mass communication.
I guess, you already missed my longer posts during my absence. So did I miss a fully
functioning Internet! Unbelievable but today you feel sorta naked if you don´t have
your usual ways of communication available for your convenicence. At least even
the smallest ‘nest’ does have an internet terminal to keep in touch with the world!
…how do they relate? You may say: One can spot Munich from
atop via Google Maps and try to find all S-Bahn trainstations…
True but as of today, another service from Deutsche Bahn has
reached Internet era.
…or how I got into a really annoying trip to munich again. Annoying because of the fact
that I had to deal with the bad reliability of the german railsystem… AGAIN!
And the other fact that I also left my cell phone in Bern made this an even more challenging
trip. How did my trip end up? Read the full story:
When the big Web2.0 sympathy began and all these social networks offered ppl to track
their life online, also known as “blogging”, I did not instantly adapt to this technique.
But in today’s time it can be very interesting to look back, what you have done in the past.
With the help of some software (in this case WordPress), blogging never became easier.
