Rubik’s Cube Challenges
We all know this tiny 3×3-tiled cube with 6 colors that
made many of us fall in despair when trying to solve it.
There are people, however, who manage to solve it in
a blazing fast speed. Also robots can do that well.

…or: Why for heaven’s sake spend 2’300 CHF on a coffee machine? Well… let’s
start with the story of ugly-tasting coffee and what I’ve tried so far. At work we
have a Schaerer coffee machine that makes good coffee, real good coffee! But
for home use, this machine is a tad too big and too expensive (7’250 CHF).
Time for some new junk (a.k.a. funny videos) for those who survived the
apocalypse. Sorry for being so sarcastic anyways but there were so many
people hyping about world’s end where there was no need at all. And what
happened lately: Right! N-O-T-H-I-N-G!
In this case, a concrete buffer has gone berzerk after someone has lost control
over the handle of the machine. The result looks spectacular, funny but also
dangerous. The problem is that such a concrete buffer is heavyweight and not
easily taken down when spinning around. They finally got it down anyways.
This guy thought: “Hey let’s do some copier prank” and promptly completed
his task. However he didn’t calculate several things in and so, his prank went
into a big disaster. First, he didn’t think of the load weight the copy glass
might carry and second, he underestimated his own weight.
This story describes how the webcam got invented. A small idea grown during
the question on how full a coffee machine’s can in a distant office room is.
Quentin Stafford-Fraser picked up the idea to remotely watch the coffee can by
a camera pointing to the coffee machine shooting a picture every 20 seconds.
