AMD in trouble with Fusion

What seems almost impossible to believe, has happened now. AMD has been
involved into trademark violation. Arctic Switzerland AG has claimed rights
to the trademark “Fusion” for their likewise-named power supply series. As
AMD has not shown reaction to Arctic’s concerns, lawsuits have been filed.

According to Arctic’s statement, 15 mayor dealers in Germany have been contacted to instantly stop the sale of AMD’s Fusion products. As AMD has worked together with Arctic (especially customized cooling solutions) and has also recommended them preferably to other manufacturers, these times seem to be over now as Arctic might have pissed off the wrong companion.

By now, AMD has not stated anything yet, but the prohibition to sell any Fusion products might hit AMD hard as it affects almost all new CPUs, chipsets and embedded CPUs. Also Mainboard manufacturers micht be affected.

The trademark “Fusion” is said to have been registered by Arctic in 2006. AMD has published first informations about the Fusion platform in mid 2010.

While they put all their effort in to bring out a good CPU platform, they obviously forgot about checking on trademark issues when giving the name “Fusion” to it.

However I wonder why Arctic then has waited almost 2 years to claim rights on “Fusion”. Maybe Arctic has financial problems?

Who knows…
