When it comes to perfect scenery ingame, then effects
play an important role. Now not all effects look great and
mostly they look too artificial. Movement of objects hasn’t
been perfect as in reality. Physics engines improved that.

WHat if your phone’s UI would adapt to the light source
outside and give you the feeling of real 3D of the UI?
It seems as if Bob Burrough has done exactly that. What
is early alpha state, looks promising though!

…or what can we achieve with a given size limit for the
binary? Today’s entry deals with two extreme demos
that have been shown on the demozoo competition in
2013. One demo is 64KB and the other just 4 KB!

Imagine a restaurant and instead of reading a menu
you’ll see the waiter bringing a small device that
presents you all the menu items vivid and in 3D.

Ever wondered how drones would be able to fly through
curved 3D tunnels without tilting and shifting? Well, the
answer is a drone that can bend itself according to the
given surrounding using proximity sensors.

The new XBox is a long-awaited successor for the already aged XBox 360.
While Sony has already presented details for the PS4 and Nintendo
brought the WiiU to the gamers last christmas, Microsoft is a bit on the
slow line and has to show something now.

When it comes to updates at my place, these are rare when we have to deal
with expenses beyond the 1000 CHF border. So that’s why the upgrade of my
TV set has taken over 6 years in a rather fast common update cycle. Don’t get
me wrong. I am not Mr. Pinchpenny but such expenses are well-considered.

On the GDC 2012 EA and Maxis have shown a new version of SimCity. Simcity 4
is the newest version of the game since 2004, offering a sort-of-isometric view
and real 3D objects ingame. The game depth was really high but not higher than
in Simcity 3000 (published in 1998). I’m a big fan, who has played the original.

Well… maybe you’ve already read about it or heard of: Apple has just filed for
patents of 3D gestures for a device to be steered with. Today I was astounded
to see that a rather unknown manufacturer of cell phones has released a final
version of a 3D gesture-controlled cell phone. Looks great so far!

Yesterday, Rosiv has shown me impressive videos of lightshow projected on
landmarks. These lightshows mostly try to integrate into the structure well and
thus add a 3D effect on it. On August 19th and 20th 2011 at Georgentor in
Dresden there was the Intel Visibly Smart Experience Lightshow 3D .

Seems as if the guys at Cupertino get no rest at all. Now a real near competitor
from Fremont (That’s approx. 7 miles away from Cupertino) is suing Apple for
patent violations. S3 formerly known for integrated GPU and much earlier also
known for own graphics cards, sees two of it’s patents violated by Apple.

The IFA 2011 in Berlin (a famous german annual expo for new hifi and video devices)
brought up a new beauty concerning 3D TV. What has been limited to Asia before finally
seems to hit stores in Europe also. The Toshiba ZL2 is not only a glasses-free 3D TV, it
also supports Quadruple-HD (3840×2160) resolution.

I think most of my readers my remember the times when 3D Games became
available on PC. We all remembered the moments when our expensive
500 DM card have been plugged into our PCs to be able to live 3D games
ourselves. So how has 3D Gaming changed within the past 15 years?
