Intel to produce in 22nm in Q2 2012
It seems as if the next-gen CPUs of Intel will be lithographed in 22nm structure size. Also
a new technology, called tri-gate transistors will be introduced. Instead of flat transistors
new three-dimensional gates will be used instead. With this technology, smaller structures
annd more transistor switches per mm² Die area are possible.
If the new technology will be successful or helping to increase speed or reduce heat dissipation, we will have to wait until April 2012, when Intel plans to release the first Ivy-Bridges with the new structure sizes!
Intel’s tri-gate technology
In the meantime, AMD still does not reduce structure size any further and will produce their next-gen graphics processor in 28nm structure size yet!
