WLAN soon to be much faster

Where most of the home WLAN devices still work with 802.11b/g/n reaching
theoretical speeds of up to 450MBit/s and 900MBit/s using MIMO techiques,
802.11ac with its 1300MBit/s is just approaching and first devices are available.
802.11ad as ne standard will allow 7 GBit/s using a 60GHz frequency band.

Together with Wilocity, Marvell and Atheros have already designed and manufactured Multiband chips, that have already embedded frequency modules of 2.4, 5 and 60GHz to serve a/b/g/n/ac and ad standards. How fast the chips work right now is not yet known as either Marvell and Atheros have not yet issued any chips to manufacturers for public demonstration.

Yet there are already plans from a number of computer distributors to issue mobile computers using the new WLAN speeds at Q4 2012. However I doubt that these devices will also become available at this time.

Interesting though if WLAN can become so fast that you won’t see a difference using LAN cable or WLAN.
