Censornet made in the EU

Rien ne va plus! Something like this could maybe come true to the unfiltered
Internet as we know it. The EU is about to bring out a Child Protection Filter.
Its purpose: Filter out any material that’s probably unsuitable for youngsters.
But what, if the technique gets into wrong lanes and is used for censoring?

Sure. No mother or father wants his/her child to watch profane, racist, violent or pornographic material on the web. And the access to it gets easier and easier with all-new features being brought out here and there. The problem is that youngsters always seek a way to gain access to sites where they don’t have easy access to. The tools are mostly password lists for password-protected sites where only adult people gain access to after prooving that they’re of appropriate age.

Age verification as we know it is already outdated and the mechano is already being passed by in no time.

The site owners of legally posted adult content face this problem every day. But they don’t habe a chance yet.

So the only answer on it is to pre-censor the web by applying filter to the content before it reaches the computer. So it’s the ISPs who have to take care of this problem as they’re alone in the position to filter content before it hits the customers’ PCs.

What sounds like a good idea first seems to be a hidden path to apply censoring onto “unwanted” offers such as illegal posted music/videos and other free-speech-related material that could be dangerous for powerful men.

What sounds shizophrenic, has already been applied successfully in China. Their Internet is censored like hell and they’re not seing anything that could upset the chinese government or be of potential danger for the chinese regime as it exists by now. So chinese people have almost no access to Twitter/facebook where free speech is given. They will find theirselves on block pages if a site is triggering one of the many applied filters in the great wall of the internet.

Something like this could come true in Europe true if it’s once started like this for “unsuitable material”. The possibilities are huge using Deep packet Inspection.

Today it’s only sites which deal with hard pornographic or violence material. Tomorrow you might find yourself being silenced as your blog gets filtered out. – The development is however very freightening as there is potential to finally have an internet at the gusto, the media companies may want to have: pre-filtered content without any unwanted “free” stuff where companies may fear fantastilliardic losses.

So let’s see where this may finally lead if that should come true.
