Zippyshare unavailable in Germany
Zippyshare seems to be unavailable for users from
Germany. Although this lockout is not caused from
ISPs it seems that Zippyshare is showing the result
from the recently accepted Art.13 regulation.
Users from Germany only see a 403 (Permission denied) error instead of the usual Zippyshare homepage.
Once again this is a real good example why geoblocking is a nuisance and censorship is bringing nothing but anger to frustrated users and companies that think censorship is the only choice to fight copyright infringements.
Zippyshare got into target in the past from almost every major movie company as zippyshare was (or still is?) used to provide illegal free access to movies. However Zippyshare now complies to the DMCA act and thus takes down illegal content as soon as it is reported.
It’s just a matter of time when the world wide web is divided into country-based services bringing the concept of a free global source of information to fall.
