Strange antennas in the near of Buchloe
Have you ever wondered about the strange antennas you can see when you travel from
munich to Zurich via Lindau and are about to reach Buchloe? Well, I also have asked
myself what that strange antenna-buildup is for. A research on Wikipedia finally answered
my question and brought up some interesting information.
As wikipedia states, these antennas were built up for the olympic games in Munich in 1972 to transmit the olympic games via short-wave frequency. Many radio stations send with 500kW power, what is quite a lot. However there seem not many radio stations left that use this radio sender. Mostly christian church radio stations are using it for broadcasting their program as cable TV and radio is a much more reliable method for broadcasting content. However these radio stations seem to have many listeners to keep the antennas online. I bet, they cost a lot to be kept online…
Interesting that the towers are about 100 metres in height and their lighting signals can be seen from a distance of about 20 kilometres.
