FFMPEG 1.0 universal codec is out now!
The search for the right codec to play back a video file is always a big
hassle. That’s where FFMPEG kicked in and is part of many codec packs.
Also as encoder, the FFMPEG codec library could be universally used.
However the decoder and demuxer have received more changes.
As there were already a big list of De-multiplexers and decoders, 3GPP Timed Text, Canopus Lossless, CPiA, GeoTIFF, Opus, iLBC, TechSmith Screen Codec 2, Microsoft Expression Screen, Microsoft Screen ATC (v1, V2), SAMI subtitle, RealText und SubViewer, SubRip and WebVTT have been added. Some of them however will require external sources to be added in order to work properly.Besides that, Adobe’s Real Time Messaging Protocol (RTMPT, RTMPS, RTMPTS, RTMPE, RTMPTE) is now supported in a big variety.
It’s only a matter of time when famous codec packs such as K-Lite and others will be updated to have FFMPEG 1.0 included.
If you wanna give FFMpeg a refresh, then you’re free to get your Windows builds here: http://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/
For those who use a Linux distribution, youll find the binaries here: http://ffmpeg.org/download.html#release_1.0
