Self-healing electronics? No longer Sci-Fi!
A team of engineers at the University of Illinois has developed a self-healing system that
restores electrical conductivity to a cracked circuit in seconds. Led by aerospace
engineering professor Scott White and materials science and engineering professor Nancy
Sottos, the researchers published their results in the journal Advanced Materials.
What looks unbelievable to one’s eyes, seems real now. A circuit that consists of a thin gold layer and a substrate containing little capsules that contain a sort of liquid metal that will pour into a crack or broken line of the circuit and restore conductivity of the broken circuit.
