R.I.P. – Doris Day (+97)
Doris Day, a world-famous actress died at the age of 97.
US media reported today that the Doris Day Foundation
confirmed her passing. Born in Cincinnati, OH on
April 3rd, 1922 she had a lot of roles in films.
Later in her life she moved to Carmel, CA where she also retired from show business. She had rloes together with Rock Hudson (1925–1985) or James Stewart (1908–1997) and one of her most famous roles in “The Man Who Knew Too Much” (1956) where she had her debute with her Song “Que sera sera” which became her most famous song as well.
Her last appearance in show business was in 2011 when she has released her song album “My Heart” which contained a lot of songs from the 80’s, she also made it back to the top list of albums. In the UK she made the Top Ten as second oldest songwriter and singer after Vera Lynn.
Her only business after the end of her film career was the Hotel “Cypress Inn” in Carmel-at-the-Sea.
Since 1978 she operated a foundation for animals to rescue, most of them being cats and dogs who were subject to stray and also subject to being killed later on in public animal shelters if they weren’t transferred to homes in due time.
Her success however didn’t last with her marriages: Doris Day was married 4 times and each of the marriages were divorced later on, the last one was in 1981. In 2004 she lost her only child Terry Melcher, who earlier contributed to her song album “My Heart”.
