Nearly perfect rectangular ice shelf
A week ago I have written about temperature records in
Switzerland. Now this article is about a big rectangular
ice shelf that broke loose from the Larson C ice shelf.
Now calving if ice isn’t that seldom but the form is!
As the following pictures from the NASA show, the ice shelf that broke loose almost has perfect rectangular shape and a diagonal span of over 1.5km. That’s quite a size!
As beautiful as it is to look at, as much more should it make you think about global warming and the change of the general weather situation worldwide.
With the antarctical ice to reduce more and more, the ocean levels will inevitably rise and sunlight is even less reflected meaning that temperatures worldwide will again be affected to go up..
