\nyou may ask yourself, why on earth should I have network tools
\non my iDevice?<\/p>\n
Well, you don’t have to but if you work with remote tools or need network informations, you will need these!<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s review some Apps\u2026(1)<\/a> Okay, let’s begin with a network planning tool.<\/p>\n This little but yet handy tool is for these who have to deal with network planning and subnetting. Simple as that, you give an IP address, use the slider to modify the network mask with the slider and it instantly shows you the configuration parameters and network information. Also the network class is shown. But the real power lies behind the “Network” button. Pressing this one, you can calculate subnets and get their metrics. Best of all: The generated litsts can be sent via email for further references or to help out a coleague who actually has to plan subnets. The third function “Wildcard” finally does reverse subnetting and allows you to determine the number of hosts given by a certain wildcard mask. Handy and lightweighted and it’s free with NO Ads!<\/p>\n Pros: Cons: Overall-Rating: \u2605\u2605\u2605\u2605\u2606 \u2013 Free<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Ever wanted to quickly get WhoIs-data on a specific domain without haggling thru dozens of WhoIs-Services that maybe will also require you to register wirh them? Then Deep WhoIs may be the tool for you. It quickly gathers information about administrative contacts and nameservers and lists them quick and convenient. This works with the most TLDs currently registered.<\/p>\n Pros: Cons: Overall-Rating: \u2605\u2605\u2605\u2605\u2605 \u2013 Free ($0.99)<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The same programmer who brought you Deep WhoIS, also made a traceroute nework scanner that allows you to trail a network request to an IP or web address. This way you can see where your request is being blocked if a certain website or server isn’t responding. There’s not much to say as those, who use such programs, should know what tracerouting is.<\/p>\n Pros: Cons: Overall-Rating: \u2605\u2605\u2605\u2605\u2605 \u2013 Free ($0.99)<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The third program of the programmer who brought you Deep WhoIs and Nice Trace, also made a network port range check program. Check what ports are currently responding to requests and seectively harden your system if needed. Often, your system runs services you don’t use and offer possibilities to hack your network. Disabling unused network services may also help improve your network performance.<\/p>\n Pros: Cons: Overall-Rating: \u2605\u2605\u2605\u2605\u2605 \u2013 Free ($0.99)<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The forth program of the programmer who brought you Deep WhoIs Nice Trace and Scany, also made a network availability check program. Monitor your servers and clients online status with this tool. It also allows for checking specific services only. For example if you want to know if one of your hosts is running a web service, you may want to monitor if port 80 (http) and port 443 (https) are responding properly.<\/p>\n Pros: Cons: Overall-Rating: \u2605\u2605\u2605\u2605\u2605 \u2013 $0.99 ($3.99)<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Another fine toolbox for networking tools. Combines the above tools partly under one hood. Great if you wish only one App to use but you don’t have all features available. On the other hand you can invenorize your network easily and have the basic information at hand. So it has sort of rights to stay on my iDevice besides the other tools. For those, who need more detailed information about a network device and some other features, there’s also a pro version available but is rather expensive.<\/p>\n Pros: Cons: Lite version: Overall-Rating: \u2605\u2605\u2605\u2605\u2605 \u2013 Free <\/p>\n Ever wanted to quickly change something on your FTP server (mostly used for Webservices also) or open files on it to edit it contents? This FTP client allows you exactly this! Handle all your stuff on your server with this App as if you were using an FTP client on your normal computer. This App is slim, lightweight and comes in a sleek design that allows easy handling. if I need to do quick changes on my webserver from abroad, I use my iDevice to do so. A powerful tool for a rather moderate price of 3 bucks!<\/p>\n Pros: Cons: Overall-Rating: \u2605\u2605\u2605\u2605\u2606 \u2013 $2.99<\/p>\n <\/p>\n If you’re interested in knowing how fast your iDevice is in the WLAN or 3G network, you may want to have this App on your iDevice. It checks for Upload, Download and Ping speed to the closest determined test server and displays you the results. A history is also made so you can see how your network is working at different times.<\/p>\n Pros: Cons: Overall-Rating: \u2605\u2605\u2605\u2605\u2606 \u2013 Free<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Teamviewer is a remote desktop tool to assist friends when they need your help with computers. You can access their machine after they confirm your connection request. Secure data transfer makes it without worrying about intruders or exposure of private data. The Pro version that allows more features (which I couldn’t find yet) has a very steep price tag. 100 bucks is really expensive! However if you do serious administration and customer support even when you’re not at your office, this tool is a Must! As the free version already allows many features, the free HD version for iPad could gather an extra star for an unbeatable price tag vs. usefulness.<\/p>\n Pros: Cons: Free version: Overall-Rating: \u2605\u2605\u2605\u2605\u2605 \u2013 Free <\/p>\n Well… not much of a network tool but rather a VOIP service to use your iPhone as a telephone with reduced costs, this is more lightweight than Skype and other VOIP service Apps. There’s nothing much to say about VOIP services and this App as it is self-explaining. Make an account with MobileVOIP and select one of the provided carriers and you’re set. That’s all.<\/p>\n Pros: Cons: Overall-Rating: \u2605\u2605\u2605\u2605\u2605 \u2013 Free<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
