This record has been set up on August 31st, 2011

Update as of September, 14th:

While the CPU has hit the speed record of 8.4294 GHz, this was only applied onto 2 of the 8 cores. An extremely high voltage of 2 volts underlines this in a very impressive way, as the dissipation power might be far over 135 Watts! And with 8 cores it might be almost impossible to cool down, even with liquid helium!

Here’s the original CPU-Z screenshot:

So it seems as if the new FX Bulldozers allows also lots of potential to being overclocked when either air cooling or water cooling is being used. When the processor will come out (the top model is expected in Q4, 2011 to Q1, 2012), there will be probably interesting overclocking challenges again. I wonder what the next-gen processors from Intel will allow.

And I wonder when the first processor will be clocked at 10 GHz… it seems as if it ain’t so far to reach anymore…

Watch the video here:

https://blog.netspark.de/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Maximum-Speed-AMD-FX-Processor-Takes-Guinness-World-Record-YouTube_720p.mp4

Was the old world record held by an intel core I7 processor overclocked to 6.5 GHz using liquid nitrogen, the new world record is now set up by an overclocked brandnew AMD Bulldozer 8-core CPU (the 8150FX).
