So there it was… the presentation of the new Playstation 4. But unlike Apple,
Sony did not show the actual device in completion, only the new controller
and some tech demos on what the new console may be able to show. Also
the timeline is very tight as Holiday season 2013 usually means Christmas.

When it comes to hardware for computers, the first questions are: How
much dough to spend and what will I get for it. Now it is true that there are
many hardware testing magazines online which take time to analyze the new
hardware parts for you upon suitability for your project.

While AMD has already some High-End GPUs on the market, NVidia’s top
speed card, the NVidia GeForce 690GTX still is using the “old” structure
size for it’s die. The Radeon HD7990 for example builds on the 28nm struc-
ture, while the 690GTX uses the Kepler GPU based on the 32nm structure.

AMD has hit the honeypot. It seems as if both, XBox Next and Playstation 4
are using the new 8-core Jaguar Processor from AMD. Reasons for their
decision may be that the processor has much lower heat dissipation, easier
manufacturing process as the processor can be built in many foundries.

AMD seems to see time running out for them and thus unveils their 8000
GPU series. While NVidia has already announced the Geforce 7xxM series,
it’s the only logical step, AMD could have done now. The question still is if
first customer devices with the new GPUs will become available in near time!

Supercomputer are mostly one’s nation to show, we can compute numbers
as fast as possible. While last year, the fastest supercomputer was situated
in Asia, it is now again situated in the USA. The Oak Ridge National
Laboratory has built up and finally activated the fastest supercomputer.

When it comes to freaky GPU solutions, mostly PowerColor and ASUS are
involved with this. This time, PowerColor combines two 7970 Tahiti XT
GPUs and adds 6GB of video RAM to the card. The result: a devilish power-
suckling pixel monster.

AMD has a nice driver structure. The driver installs fine on a clean system and
provides you with a lot of controls over your graphics hardware. But once you
start updating your graphics driver (as the Control Center tells you to do) upon
notification, you may run into deep trouble. Happened to me again just today…

What seems almost impossible to believe, has happened now. AMD has been
involved into trademark violation. Arctic Switzerland AG has claimed rights
to the trademark “Fusion” for their likewise-named power supply series. As
AMD has not shown reaction to Arctic’s concerns, lawsuits have been filed.

It seems as if the new southern island GPUs are right on track when you read first reviews
about them. My favourite GPU test site Guru3D has checked on these and even managed
to do a Crossfîre scaling test with the new 7970 GPU. The results are promising and it
seems that the power consumption has been held in place or even dropped a little.

It seems as if the next-gen CPUs of Intel will be lithographed in 22nm structure size. Also
a new technology, called tri-gate transistors will be introduced. Instead of flat transistors
new three-dimensional gates will be used instead. With this technology, smaller structures
annd more transistor switches per mm² Die area are possible.

It seems as ifAMD is near release of the new generation 7 Graphics cards cards
(Codename Southern Island). So it seems as if the cards are almost the same length as their
older sisters (AMD Radeon 6xxx). However the GPU will be manufactured in 28nm process
allowing higher speeds/clocks while still decreasing power consumption.

Was the old world record held by an intel core I7 processor overclocked to
6.5 GHz using liquid nitrogen, the new world record is now set up by an
