Apple XS Max vs Huawei Mate P20

Well it was only a matter of time until someone would release an
online video on “Who builds the better phone” with actual compe-
titors. Today we’ll see the Apple XS Max perform against the
Huawei Mate P20 Pro. Huawei says, they have have beat Apple!

So let’s see if it is really lihe Huawei says or if they have just bluffed.

The Phone specs really speak for the Huawei Mate P20 Pro, there are hardly other phones that have similar specs and the Kirin 980 is a real beast. So time for Apple to confess that their A12 Bionic won’t withstand all new mobile processors…

Watch this video from PhoneBluff and be surprised:

Well if you thought, the Huawei Mate P20 would beat the hell out of the iPhone XS Max, then you’re wrong.

Although the Huawei Mate P20 Pro comes with double the RAM and definitely more processor speed split over 8 cores:

2 Super speed cores @2.6GHz
2 Large cores @1.92GHz
4 Small cores @1.80GHz

Not all cores can operate at the same time: There’s either a 2x2x2, 2x4x0 or 0x4x2 matrix whereas only 6 of the 8 cres may operate concurrently.

The A12 Bionic from Apple comes with a 6-core processor:

2 Large cores @2.49GHz
4 Small cores @1.78GHz

All cores can operate concurrently!

Both processors are manufactured at 7nm from TSMC so the structural size is identical.

Although they have identical number of transistors, the Apple chip is slightly larger (87mm2 against 73,1mm2)

The GPU of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro is capable of serving 2 displays at once (4K30p+4K30p).

The GPU of the Apple A12 can serve an additional 5K display at 60p which is more than the Mali GPU of the Kirin 980.

Both CPUs can address 8GiB of maximum RAM.

When the test starts, the Apple iPhone boosts away with a 5 second advantage. and on the course back the advantage even lifts to 18 seconds. Especially the fact that the Huawei P20 Pro sports the maximum amount of RAM yet loosing the content of the Excel App makes one wonder: Why does the phone with more RAM still close applications in the background even though that is unnecessary?

Conclusion: the iPhone XS Max with it’s A12 is clearly beating the Kirin 980 even with less RAM available!

Once more it is clear that maximum equipment is not everything if the software has flaws.

So Huawei has lost the race and taken it’s mouth too full by now. The Apple iPhone XS Max is still the most powerful phone to date!
