The Simpsons soon to be off air?

Today I read a rather shocking news about the most famous comic family.
It seems as if 20th Century Fox is about to turn off the lights in the Simpsons
home forever. Reason for this is that 20 Century Fox stated that production
costs have increased while the series is on deficit. Also the voice actors…

…should accept a 45% pay cut while the actors said they offer a temporary pay cut of 30%.

These Statements were also made by 20th Century Fox:

“We believe this brilliant series can and should continue, but we cannot produce future seasons under its current financial model,”

Is that so? Hey, the Simpsons are a real successful merchandise machine and the company earns Billions thru syndication and other merchandise! Lame excuse here in my opinion!

“We are hopeful that we can reach an agreement with the voice cast that allows the Simpsons to go on entertaining audiences with original episodes for many years to come.”

Okay… accept the 30% they offer to you. That’s already quite a lot! Would the bosses on the carpet stage accept a 30% pay cut? I don’t think so!

The Fox statement followed a report on the Daily Beast news website, which said the principal voice cast members – including the voices of Homer (Dan Castellaneta), Marge (Julie Kavner), Bart (Nancy Cartwright) and Lisa (Yeardley Smith) – were having difficulty renegotiating contracts that currently see them earning around $8’000’000 each per season.

Okay, Sounds like a real high salary so far, 32 million in total for all 4 actors per season and thus, year! However these actors have to cover multiple characters, not only Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie. AFAIK, Dan Castellaneta for example speaks the following characters:

  • Homer Simpson
  • Abe Simpson
  • Krusty the Clown
  • Groundskeeper Willie
  • Barney Gumble
  • Joe Quimby
  • Itchy
  • Sideshow Mel
  • Kodos
  • Louie
  • Frankie the Squealer
  • Hans Moleman

These are quite a lot! No questions asked. And after 23 seasons, the original crew is still speaking on. Never change a winning team! And 20th Century Fox is still bringing in the dough! So don’t pinchpenny on the Simpsons and their actors!

Should this come true that 20th Century Fox is going to let the Simpsons die due to some pinchpenny behavior or using this as a lame excuse, many viewers of the Fox network will switch to another channel! At least I hope they do so!

So, all in all, let’s hope, Fox and the voice actors will come to a reasonable agreement!

The Simpsons were great when they had their debut on the Tracey Ullman show

And I hope they will make many more seasons as this family
