AMD seems to see time running out for them and thus unveils their 8000
GPU series. While NVidia has already announced the Geforce 7xxM series,
it’s the only logical step, AMD could have done now. The question still is if
first customer devices with the new GPUs will become available in near time!

It seems as if the new southern island GPUs are right on track when you read first reviews
about them. My favourite GPU test site Guru3D has checked on these and even managed
to do a Crossfîre scaling test with the new 7970 GPU. The results are promising and it
seems that the power consumption has been held in place or even dropped a little.

As of today, it seems, as if AMD is trying to bring you the new graphics chips earlier then
planned. So are the 77xx series for entry-High-Level gaming. Their chip called ” Cape Verde”,
the 78xx series “Pitcairn” adress High-performance gamers and the flagship, 79xx series
“Tahiti” are dedicated to the enthusiast users. AMD plans to bring them cards out for x-mas!

It seems as ifAMD is near release of the new generation 7 Graphics cards cards
(Codename Southern Island). So it seems as if the cards are almost the same length as their
older sisters (AMD Radeon 6xxx). However the GPU will be manufactured in 28nm process
allowing higher speeds/clocks while still decreasing power consumption.
