SuperMUC-NG goes live

When it comes to supercomputers, there are
challenges all over the world. If you take a look
at the TOP500 list then you’ll see that Asia and
USA are currently fighting for Rank 1 on this list.

But there are also competitors from Switzerland and Germany.

SuperMUC is the newest competitor and has ben set operative on Setember 25th, 2018

70PB storage, 700TB RAM, these are numbers that might sound weenie against the “Summit”, but if you regard it from the point of view as an all-purpose system, SuperMUC might show “Summit” it’s limits as “Summit” gets it’s power from GPU cores. SuperMUC might get Rank 1 as an all-purpose Super Computer when it comes to AXV512 processing power – a weakness of sole GPU calculation.

And as this is not the full scaled super computer yet, there might be other surprises coming soon as well.

So “Congrationations, Munich, for entering the summit of Super computers!”
