Must be my lucky time…

…or how I got into a really annoying trip to munich again. Annoying because of the fact
that I had to deal with the bad reliability of the german railsystem… AGAIN!
And the other fact that I also left my cell phone in Bern made this an even more challenging
trip. How did my trip end up? Read the full story:

Saturday:

No phone working, cell network offline? WTF? I couldn’t barf more. Internet was still working but sipcall and Sipgate decided not to work so no one could call me. Asking Cablecom if they have a problem routing the STUN ports that seem to be necessary for VoIP to work properly they let me know that all was okay… and I had to see it the same way as my Downloads were at approx 11 MB/s, quite okay for a 100 MBit/s line…

Well have to try to reconfigure the VoIP-Adapter today (gheez I hate it to reset the tiny box and enter all these settings again by hand as it does not support exporting or importing settings… NARF!).
Anyway… tjhe usual life of an IT pro you would say but hey, also we want to have computer stuff to work flawless without intervention as we are confronted with these problems at work already… so no need to have problems like these  at home also.

Sunday:

Just yesterday, nothing bad in mind, my notebook had installed an update (as of many these days thanks to Microsoft), when, after the reboot, my notebook started to fire the wildest BSOD’s to me.

Not knowing what was going on since the notebook ran fine for 7 days and downloading some stuff, I started to find out what the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL could mean as this error was at a time where computers had to deal with 16 Interrupt IDs… but hey, I run Windows 7 x64 where the OS can manage up to 256 IRQs…

While trying to get the notebook back online I searched google and found only inconclusive stuff, nothing that could help me solve the problem…

The notebook started to piss me off more and more with throwning some other BSODs at me ranging from SATA_IO_ERROR, MEMORY_EXTERNAL_EXCEPTION, IO_DEVICE_ERROR, MEMORY_NOTREADY_OR_PRESENT….

But hey, wait, what was that with the memory? Hmmm… could it be, that the RAM is defective? One post in the internet hat shown that I should try flicking out one of the RAMs…

Okay, been there, done it… and believe it or not, the notebook fired up and ran 24 hours as if htere was no cloud that could shatter the sky…

Well, that prooves that even CORSAIR RAM ain’t fault-free so I made a RMA and ordered another 8 Gigs as they’re 89 CHF at the moment… Instant Replacement with a kit in reserve if needed…
The rest of the weekend was quiet and nothing special happened so far.

But hey, there was a positive thing also… the PSN Store is back online and I already claimed my two free games, namely Infamous and Dead Nation!
As it seems, German customers are the pissed ones as they don’t have the choice to pick from these (FSK?) and are able to pick LBP and Hustle Kings instead…

Too bad if they already have bought LBP on disc… as it is besides of Wipeout HD the only real interesting game of the WB program….

Well, Let’s see what the week brings to me anyways…

P.S.: In the meantime, why not check back this also fine blog of one of my best friends: http://rosiv-damotil.com/
