What 2013 will bring us…. gadget-related!

Not one year without new gadgets for technic enthusiasts. So is 2013 also no
exception and the first gadgets have already been shown on the CES or at
least announced. So let’s start: The Huawei Ascend Mate, a smartphone-tablet
with a 6.1 inch display will hit stores approx in March 2013.

Being equipped with a quadcore SoC and all the other things, a smartphone needs today, this Android smartphone haas nearly everything to be a star. However there’s something bothering: The screen just has a resolution of 1280×720 pixels. Come on! Other smartphones already offer FullHD at 5 inches screen size… however the battery with 4000 mAh capacity shall give the smartphone a runtime of 48 hours minimum when moderately used.

First hands-on tests describe the phone like this: Looks classy but has a cruel haptic as the phone body is all plastic. The surface is hardly usable one-handed. You’ll find yourself using all functiions with the second hand! The screen has a good color representation but the viewing angle is redurced due to the LCD technics. No AMOLED here, as you can read!

6.1 inches big – too big even for big palms?

One thing is for sure… it is GIGANTIC!

Next gadget in line is the Sony Xperia Tablet Z, a 10 inch tablet that is thinner than the iPad mini (and probably thiner as the iPad in common). The tablet has a tickness of only 6.9mm and can thus claim the title for being the thinnest tablet to time. Included with it, is Android 4.1.2 showing it’s surface on a 1920×1200 screen (other sources report of a 1080 vertical resolution and I also think it’s the classic 16:9 factor) but there are no absolutely reliable sources available yet.

Using an 8MP camera, the pictures could be good. Not as good as from a conventional camera but still better than most average tablets.

With Bluetooth 4.0, WLAN a/b/g/n and UMTS,LTE (but most likely the US-only variant) this tablet is working in most environments without any flaws.

What I like most, is the fact that Sony is going to give the tablet a Corning Gorilla Glass 2 back AND Front while maintaining a weight just right under 500 gramms! That’s classy!

First rumors say, that the tablet will be available on February 26th, 2013…

Having a stylish FullHD display…

…the fully-glassed back will give it a classy haptics!

The tablet remembers me a bit of a gigantic iPhone 4(S) which also has the complete glass back and giving the iPhone 4 the worthy haptics the iPhone 5 is missing…

Speaking of iPhone, Apple seems to plan the release of a bigger iPhone 5, often described as iPhone Math. But as often, this source is not most reliable so the name is still speculative.

As the iPhone 5S seems to be a logic consequence of the rather mediocre sale status of the iPhone 5, the iPhone Math is a breakout of Apple’s usual line and they’re going new ways.

Speaking of that: While the classic 18:10 format of the bigger smartphones are already hard to operate with one hand, the iPhone Math with it’s rather unusual form factor might be even harder to be operated one-handed. And that’s exactly the point, Apple usually wanted to avoid. Apple always wanted to put usability over size while maintaining a stylish appearance. However pressure of the other competitors lately seem to push hard on Apple. Time for a change? Who knows…
