Nokia still not with Steve on the run?

As today, Nokia seems to have decided to bring out another new cellphone that is not
yet using Windows Phone 7.
Instead, the N9, as Nokia calls it’s newest development, comes with MeeGo 1.2
(Codename Harmattan) and thus with an already known OS that has given life to the N900.

You might think, what’s new?

First, MeeGo 1.2 seems to allow a completely softkey-free surface. Just the display, nothing else (Okay… a power button for easy switch-on & switch-off…)
The second thing is, that MeeGo 1.2 seems to perform quite well on the phone as the following video shows.

Phone Specs:
CPU/GPU: Cortex A8 single-core processor at 1GHz and PowerVR SX350 GPU on OMAP 8630 chipset using 1GB RAM
Screen: 3.5″ AMOLED display with 852×480 pixels at 16.7 million colors covered by Corning Gorilla glass
Video:
Up to 720p (30fps) with backside camera (8MP) assisted by two flash-LED, VGA (0.3MP) video with front camera
Pictures: Uses full 8MP camera for advanced picture quality of approx. 3248×2448 pixels
Dimensions:
116mm(H)x61.5mm(W)x61.1-12.1mm(D) with a weight of 135g approx.
Memory: 16 or 64GB internal storage (not yet confirmed: extendable by max 32GB thru microSDHD)
WLAN: 80211a/b/g/n
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900
HSDPA: 850/900/1700/1900/2100
GPS: A-GPS (GSM-assisted)
GPRS/EDGE: both Class 33
3G: HSDPA up to 14.4Mbit/s – HSUPA up to 5.7MBit/s
Bluetooth: 2.1 profile with A2DP
USB: microUSB 2.0
NFC: Yes! You may use it as a digital wallet for contactfree checkout, ski passport and other techniques that use NFC!

So far, very nice specs and the design itself is also sleek and modern. For those who do not want to miss a full QWERTZ-keyboard, the N950 is the right choice.
Basically an N9 with an additional keyboard. Maybe a bit thicker and heavier!

Nokia expects it to release it in the end of 2011.

Although I am an Apple iPhone User (and believe me, the iPhone 4 IS sexy!) I am happy to see that Nokia still has some intuitive spirit alongide with its main competitors, such as Samsung, HTC, Apple and other android-based phones. The other thing is that Nokia should soon start bringing out WP7-Phones as Microsoft is now an official Nokia partner. So Nokia has mostly to fight with HTC as they are also bringing out good WP7 phones. So let’s see what comes to us in stores and what this new phone will cost!
Also the availability of applications may be one step for success or fail of this phone as Google’s Android market and Apple’s AppStore both count more than 30.000 apps! The ovi store comes to a mere 8.000 apps so far and many of them are more spam than of real usage!
